The 1975 Bulgaria 10 Leva “Olympic Congress – Athletes” silver coin commemorates the Tenth Olympic Congress held in Varna, celebrating the ideals of international sport and fair competition. The reverse features a striking central medallion depicting two athletes in a dynamic wrestling pose, framed by the inscription referencing the 1896 founding of the modern Olympic Games. Around the border appears the Cyrillic legend “ДЕСЕТИ ОЛИМПИЙСКИ КОНГРЕС 1973,” acknowledging the congress year, while below, the iconic five Olympic rings and the small inscription “ВАРНА” emphasize the host city.
The obverse presents the state emblem of the People’s Republic of Bulgaria: a heraldic lion within a shield, surrounded by wheat ears, a rising star, and ribbons marked 681–1944, symbolizing Bulgarian statehood. The inscriptions “НАРОДНА РЕПУБЛИКА БЪЛГАРИЯ,” the year 1975, and the denomination 10 ЛЕВА complete the dignified composition.
Graded PCGS PR67CAM, the coin displays attractive contrast between frosted relief and reflective fields. With its rich historical context, Olympic symbolism, and elegant workmanship, this issue stands as a meaningful addition for collectors of Bulgarian history and sports-themed numismatics.
