The Bulgaria 25 leva 1984 coin commemorates the 40th anniversary of the Socialist Republic of Bulgaria, marking a milestone theme widely used in Bulgarian commemorative coinage of the era. Issued with a denomination of 25 leva, it combines official state heraldry with bold, modernist symbolism typical for the period.
The obverse shows the emblem of the People’s Republic of Bulgaria: a crowned heraldic lion within a wreath of wheat ears, topped by a five-pointed star. At the base of the emblem appears the date range “681–1944” above a ribbon, while the surrounding legend reads “НАРОДНА РЕПУБЛИКА БЪЛГАРИЯ.” The denomination “25 ЛЕВА” sits prominently at the bottom, flanked by the dates 1944 and 1984, with gleaming mirrored fields contrasting frosted relief.
The reverse features an allegorical anniversary composition: a rising monument-like structure with geometric supports, stylized floral motifs and leaves, radiating lines suggesting progress, and a clear atomic symbol above. The inscriptions “ЧЕТИРИДЕСЕТ ГОДИНИ” and “СОЦИАЛИСТИЧЕСКА БЪЛГАРИЯ” complete the message, turning the coin into a small, polished time-capsule of its era.
Struck in silver and certified PCGS PR67 Deep Cameo, this is a standout collectible for political history and Cold War-themed numismatics.
