The 1987 Bulgaria 1 Lev “Calgary Winter Olympic Games – Hockey” coin, graded PCGS PR68DCAM, celebrates Bulgaria’s participation in the XV Winter Olympics held in Calgary in 1988. Struck in CuNi with a deep cameo proof finish, it features a bold, modern sports-themed design reflecting the dynamism of winter athletics.

The obverse depicts a stylized ice hockey player in motion, shown with a hockey stick, puck, and angular geometric lines symbolizing speed and energy. To the left appears the Calgary flame emblem, and to the right the inscription “Зимни Олимпийски Игри 1988” (Winter Olympic Games 1988). At the bottom are the date 1987, the denomination 1 Лев, and small decorative linear elements enhancing the composition.

The reverse presents the coat of arms of the People’s Republic of Bulgaria — a heraldic lion framed by wheat ears, a red star symbolic element (rendered in relief), and the dates 681–1944 beneath the shield. Around the edge runs the national inscription “Народна Република България”, with all details struck clearly in frosted cameo texture.
