The obverse depicts a moving scene of three wolves in their natural highland habitat: an adult wolf protectively standing near a cub in the foreground, while another adult appears in the background. The landscape with rocks, grasses, and shrubs reinforces the theme of wilderness. Around the design are the inscriptions “LE MONDE ANIMAL EN PÉRIL” and “CANIS SIMENSIS,” with the year “2005” placed to the right. The reverse presents the coat of arms of Benin: two leopards as supporters flank a shield showing a castle, a shining star, a palm tree, and a sailing ship. Beneath, the national motto “FRATERNITÉ – JUSTICE – TRAVAIL” is inscribed together with the denomination “1000 FRANCS CFA.” Struck in proof silver and certified PR69 by PCGS, this coin is both a numismatic jewel and a symbolic call for the protection of endangered species.
