The 1974 Belize 5 Dollars silver-colored CuNi proof coin belongs to the Local Fauna series and highlights one of the most iconic symbols of the country – the toucan bird. On the obverse, the design shows a beautifully detailed toucan perched on a branch with spread leaves, its large beak carefully engraved to reflect the bird’s characteristic silhouette. Above the image appears the denomination “FIVE DOLLARS”, framed by a dotted border. This depiction celebrates the richness of Belize’s tropical nature, where the toucan is not only a recognizable bird but also an emblem of biodiversity. The reverse of the coin presents the coat of arms of Belize: a shield divided into three parts with tools of the woodcutting industry (crossed axe and saw), a sailing ship below symbolizing trade, and above it a tree, framed by a wreath of laurel. Supporting the shield stand two figures – one holding an axe and the other a paddle, embodying traditional labor. At the bottom is the national motto “SUB UMBRA FLOREO” (“I flourish in the shade”), with the year of issue 1974 and the inscription BELIZE above. Certified as PCGS PR69DCAM, this proof coin demonstrates high minting quality and is an important collectible for those interested in wildlife, national symbols, and Central American numismatics.
