The 1992 Belize 5 Dollars silver coin “50th Anniversary of El Alamein” was released to mark fifty years since the famous battle of World War II in North Africa. The obverse features Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery, commander of the British Eighth Army, shown in uniform with cap, holding a map in one hand and pointing forward with the other. Behind him are tanks and clouds of smoke, evoking the desert campaign of 1942. The rim is inscribed “50th ANNIVERSARY OF EL ALAMEIN”, with the dual dates 1942–1992 and the denomination “5 DOLLARS” below. The reverse depicts a right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, wearing a diadem, accompanied by the inscriptions “ELIZABETH II” and “BELIZE 1992.” Struck in proof silver, the coin combines detailed military imagery with national symbolism, forming part of Belize’s international commemorative program. Alongside its companion coin portraying Rommel, it reflects both sides of the historic battle. Certified examples, graded by PCGS, are particularly sought after among collectors of world and military history coins.
