The 1992 Belize 5 Dollars “50th Anniversary of El Alamein” silver coin was issued to honor the fiftieth anniversary of the North African campaign of World War II. The obverse depicts Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery, commander of the British Eighth Army, shown in uniform with cap, pointing forward while holding a map. Behind him appear images of military tanks and clouds of smoke, symbolizing the desert battle setting. The design is framed with the inscription “50th ANNIVERSARY OF EL ALAMEIN”, the dual dates 1942–1992 and the denomination “5 DOLLARS.” The reverse carries a right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II wearing a diadem, with the inscriptions “ELIZABETH II” and “BELIZE 1992.” Struck in proof silver, this issue combines finely engraved detail with a theme of international historical importance. Together with its counterpart coin showing Rommel, it forms part of Belize’s commemorative program dedicated to major episodes of world history. Certified examples graded by PCGS are valued collectibles for numismatists interested in military and world coinage.
