The Belgium 5 Francs silver coin of 1872 is an impressive issue from the reign of King Leopold II, Belgium’s second monarch. The obverse features his finely detailed left-facing portrait, complete with a full beard and dignified profile, encircled by the inscription “LEOPOLD II ROI DES BELGES.” Beneath the bust lies the signature of the engraver, Leopold Wiener. The reverse presents the crowned Belgian coat of arms: the rampant lion within a shield, surrounded by laurel and oak branches tied with a ribbon. The French motto “L’UNION FAIT LA FORCE” (“Unity Makes Strength”) crowns the design, while the denomination “5 F” appears at both sides of the shield and the date “1872” is placed at the bottom. Struck in silver and catalogued as KM-24, this coin is certified UNC by PCGS, ensuring sharp detail and original mint luster. A representative piece of 19th-century Belgian numismatics, it symbolizes national strength and the authority of Leopold II’s monarchy.
