The Belgium 5 Centimes coin of 1901, struck in copper-nickel during the reign of King Leopold II, is a fine example of Belgian small denomination coinage at the turn of the 20th century. The obverse presents the Belgian heraldic lion in rampant position on a finely dotted background, surrounded by the Dutch motto “EENDRACHT MAAKT MACHT” (“Unity Makes Strength”), with the date 1901 and two stars below. Beneath the lion is the engraver’s signature. The reverse features the denomination “5 CENTIEMEN” boldly inscribed within a textured field, with a star placed beneath and surrounded by the circular legend “LEOPOLD II KONING DER BELGEN.” A small rosette ornament decorates the lower edge, enhancing the symmetry of the design. Certified MS62 by PCGS, this coin belongs to the Dutch legend type, complementing the parallel French versions. It remains a collectible piece of Belgian numismatic heritage, reflecting both national pride and the authority of Leopold II.
