The Belarus 20 rubles silver coin “Sedov” (2008) from the Sailing Ships series pays tribute to one of the greatest tall ships of the 20th century — the four-masted barque Sedov. The reverse depicts the vessel majestically sailing forward, with meticulous details of its towering rigging and fully spread sails. In the background, another silhouette of the barque emphasizes its scale and maritime strength, while the inscription СЕДОВ highlights the ship’s name. The obverse features the national emblem of Belarus with inscriptions in Belarusian: “РЭСПУБЛIКА БЕЛАРУСЬ” and “20 РУБЛЁЎ,” the hallmark Ag 925, and the year 2008. At the center shines a compass rose with holographic effect, symbolizing seafaring, navigation, and exploration. Originally launched in 1921 in Germany as Magdalene Vinnen II, the ship was later transferred to the Soviet Union and renamed after Russian polar explorer Georgy Sedov. Today it remains a training vessel and a proud symbol of endurance and seafaring heritage. Certified SP70 by PCGS, this coin combines historical legacy, superb silver craftsmanship, and innovative holographic minting, making it a centerpiece for collectors.
