The 1996 Belarus 1 Rouble silver proof coin was issued to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the United Nations and Belarus’ participation in this global organization. Struck in .925 silver with a proof finish, this coin carries both historical and symbolic meaning. On the obverse is the official State Emblem of Belarus of that period: a radiant sun rising above the globe, surrounded by a wreath of wheat ears tied with a ribbon in national ornament, and crowned by a five-pointed star. The inscriptions include “РЭСПУБЛІКА БЕЛАРУСЬ” (Republic of Belarus), the year 1996, the silver purity “.925 СРЭБРА” and the weight “28.28 ГРАМА.” The reverse presents a powerful symbolic image: the outline of Belarus with a stylized flying crane, a universal emblem of peace and freedom. To the left, the large number “50” appears together with the United Nations emblem, marking the anniversary. Around the design is the inscription “НАРОДЫ, АБ’ЯДНАНЫЯ ЗА МІР 1945–1995” (Nations United for Peace 1945–1995), as well as the denomination “1 РУБЕЛЬ.” A traditional Belarusian ornament decorates the edge, reinforcing the national character of the piece. This early commemorative coin of independent Belarus stands out for its rarity, proof quality, and symbolic depth, combining themes of peace, unity, and international cooperation.
