The commemorative silver coin featuring the image of a Chinese zodiac sign by the Australian Mint appeared in 2003 as a part of Lunar series. The patron of the lunar year of 2003 was a Goat. The Goat and its cub are depicted standing on the rock with Chinese patterns surrounding them. The effigy of the animals is finely detailed and mirror finished, which distinguishes them from the other objects. Next to the Goat there is a hieroglyph meaning the animal's name in Chinese. The year of issue disposed vertically is minted on the opposite side of the image. The rate of silver (999) and the weight of the item are placed on the reverse below the image. The obverse shows polished relief of Her Majesty Elizabeth II placed on the round matte field and the inscriptions indicating the face value of the coin (1$) and the country of its origin.
