The coin of pure .999 silver issued in Australia in 2008 is dedicated to the World Youth Day’2008. The event is held by the Catholic Church every three or two years in different countries and includes the public arrival of the Pope in his famous “Popemobile”. The World Youth Day was hosted by Sydney in 2008 with the participation of Pope Benedict XVI, so the event is commemorated by the 1-dollar collectible coin. The coin’s reverse bears the colored image of then-Pope and the emblem of WYD’08 in Sydney. The name of the event is indicated by the circumference above the image and the place of it is minted below it. The obverse of the commemorative coin shows the profile relief of the head of the Commonwealth surrounded by her name, the piece’s denomination and the word “Australia” as the place of issue.
