This Austria Salzburg 1 Thaler silver coin, struck in 1700 under Prince-Archbishop Johann Ernst von Thun, is a remarkable example of Baroque ecclesiastical coinage. Cataloged as KM-254 and certified PCGS MS63, it reflects Salzburg's religious and political heritage. The obverse portrays Saint Rupert in episcopal robes, wearing an ornate mitre and holding a crozier and ceremonial salt vessel. A decorated shield, laurel wreath, Latin inscriptions, and beaded border complete the design. The reverse features the crowned Madonna holding the Christ Child and a sceptre above an elaborate episcopal coat of arms with crossed insignia, tasselled cords, and heraldic shields. Johann Ernst von Thun governed Salzburg from 1687 to 1709, supporting architecture and religious institutions during the Baroque period. This certified Mint State silver Thaler combines historical significance, detailed craftsmanship, and exceptional collectible appeal.
