This Argentina Catamarca 1 Korona silver token, issued in 1991, commemorates the centenary of the coronation of the Virgin of the Valley, a revered religious symbol of Catamarca. The obverse features a stylized anthropomorphic figure inspired by the ancient Aguada culture, with angular facial features, geometric eyes, projecting arms, textured surfaces and decorative patterns, surrounded by REPUBLICA ARGENTINA and PROVINCIA DE CATAMARCA. The reverse displays an elaborate ceremonial crown with a cross-shaped finial, ornamental arches, raised beads and intricate relief, accompanied by the dates 1891–1991 and the inscription CORONACION PONTIFICIA DE LA VIRGEN DEL VALLE CENTENARIO. The Virgin of the Valley holds an important place in the religious traditions and cultural identity of northwestern Argentina. Certified PCGS MS63, this silver token combines indigenous artistic heritage with Catholic history. A distinctive collectible for admirers of religious art, regional traditions and Argentine numismatics.
