The 2006 Armenia 100 Dram silver coin commemorates the International Polar Year and pays tribute to Fridtjof Nansen, the famous Norwegian explorer, scientist, and humanitarian. The reverse of the coin features a detailed portrait of Nansen, dressed in polar furs, with his name inscribed beside him. Behind, a sailing vessel – a polar exploration ship – appears against a background of Arctic lines and a globe, symbolizing scientific research and discovery. The inscriptions include International Polar Year, the years 2007–2008, and the event’s official emblem. On the obverse, the coin bears the coat of arms of the Republic of Armenia, supported by a lion and eagle holding the national shield, with the year 2006 and the denomination 100 Dram below. Struck in silver with a fine Prooflike Deep Cameo finish, this coin has been certified PCGS PR69DCAM, ensuring both its authenticity and near-perfect preservation. It remains a significant collector’s piece combining numismatic art with historical and scientific heritage.
